# symfony-docker-installer v.2
2
+
3
+
Some time ago, for one of my courses, I made this [installer](https://github.com/UFO-Tech/symfony-docker-installer) so that students wouldn't waste time setting up a Symfony project in Docker. A lot has changed since then, and I've updated the installer: it's now fully automated and runs on make.

5
+
## What has changed?
6
+
7
+
- A completely new installer β all the routine happens without your attention.
8
+
- The readme has a short guide.
9
+
- No extra steps are needed.
10
+
11
+
## How to use it
12
+
13
+
1. Copy `.env.install.dist` to `.env.install`. Set `PROJECT_NAME` and, if needed, other variables.
14
+
2. Run:
15
+
16
+
```bash
17
+
make install-init
18
+
```
19
+
20
+
Enter the Symfony version (or just press Enter to get the latest one).
21
+
Specify the git repository for your new project (or press Enter if you don't need one).
22
+
23
+

24
+
Be careful: if you specify a repository that already contains data, it will be deleted!
25
+

3. The installer then does everything by itself.

## Why not just Symfony's standard Docker setup?
34
+
35
+
The answer is simple: this is exactly the setup we use in the course.
36
+
37
+
The make commands, the debugger, nginx β everything for work and sane development is already configured here.
38
+
39
+
Instead of explaining to everyone for the umpteenth time what to set up and how to get started, I just hand out a ready-made tool that works the way it should.
40
+
41
+
Outside the course you don't have to use it, but personally I use a similar setup in all my projects, because otherwise it's a waste of time on the same routine over and over.
